  • Our Bay, our Town, our Future.

Status:  Mast Presentation on the status of the barway project & Infrastrucure Report and Presentation by Polly      Buchhorn from NRM North.

* The presentation and progress report by MAST answered a number of our questions on the status, progress and estimated completion of the barway project. It also highlighted the commercial importance of a navigable barway and a safe access to St Helens by sea for our commercial fleet, the charter boats and amateur fishing and boating community alike.

* Following the presentation By Polly Buchhorn from NRM has raised a number of interesting issues around the "General Health of the Bay " particularly since all the good work to establish a baseline of "Chemical and Microbiological Wellbeing " of the bay is some years old.

It is likely that a number of environmental changes and additional, new commercial ventures in and around the bay have impacted on the health of our local waterways and, given the importance of it to our town and our community, little or no knowledge of it is in the public domain!

Check out all the details on our Blog Page

State of disrepair  of a number of jetties along Georges Bay.

We have sent a letter to MAST requesting the consideration of maintenance and repair to

a number of jetties along the bay.

* MAST have advised that these jetties are 'privately'  owned and/or are sponored by the LIONS and Rotary Clubs.

* BreakO'Day Council, at times, also makes fund available through various funding programs that could be used for this purpose.

* There may be an opportunity for us to join these organisation to tackle this issue for the benefit of the local community and visitors alike.

   Barway Update: by John McGiveron

Subject: Barway works.

These reports are provided by Justin from MAST and
They plan to do another blast on Monday which hopefully will be the last if it goes well.
They had planned to pull the armour off the end of the wall and commence tomorrow (Friday) but rather than expose the end and then go home for the weekend they will commence on Monday ( they are monitoring another Nor-Easter early next week which may slow things down for a couple of days if it occurs.
There is a significant amount of rock ready to be transported , some of which has been hauled and used for repairs.
This needed repairing but also was required to provide truck access to the outer end of the wall.
The wall extension contractors started on site this week and have spent the last few days erecting gates , forming a haul route across the sand and undertaking repairs to the outer end of the wall caused by the Nor-Easter in June.
Just touching base to let you know what is happening at the quarry and barway.
Hi Beth,

John, I
will catch up with him on Monday on site.
I must add that all parties involved are doing a top job to date and I would imagine that will continue to completion with very minimal inconvenience to residents and visitors.
I will keep you updated and thank you the support.
All this best.

Cheers,
